Tryin' some HDR

HDR can make for some pretty neat effects in photography. In my photography class we did a little experimentation with it, but it can be a difficult process so I haven't done it since. However, my new DSLR has an auto-HDR option, so I decided to try that out. It makes things pretty neat.

I took these with my friend Zach. He has years more experience than I do, and he can do some really cool HDR effects. Here's his version the second picture. Check out some of his other pics while you're at it. It's some good stuff.

Fargo Film Festival

The Fargo Film Festival was this week, and it is a pretty big deal around these parts. One of my professors is one of the top dogs with the festival, and he asked me to do some filming of some events for Concordia On-Air. I filmed a bit of two events, and decided to take some pics and get my photojournalism groove on.

My Photography Final

For the final project in my photography class we had a couple of options. I honestly don't remember all of them except for the one I did. This happened to be taking 9 pictures. Pretty easy, right? Well, there's a catch. There's always a catch.

The 9 pictures had to tell a story. It is easy enough taking 9 good pictures, but making them all go together in a story requires a bit of creativity. I'll say these pictures aren't my best work (that's what I get for doing it at 2am the night before) but the class liked the story. Anywho, here's what I did:

The fated lovers meet at the bank. Denise (the pig) drops her change and Dennis (the elephant) picks it up for her.  They exchange an initial glance. It is love at first sight.

Denise is reluctant at first to date Dennis; she has been hurt too many times. Dennis does not give up. He woos her Romeo and Juliet style.

The two go on their first date. Dinner and a movie. Dennis pays.

They share their first kiss under the moonlight.

Their relationship is getting pretty serious. They take their first vacation together.  They went to the big apple.

The lovers go into the tunnel of love. It is there where Dennis gets down on one knee and pops the question. She says yes. He went to Jared after all.

Reverend Duckstep marries the couple. It is precious.

Alas, Dennis and Denise go through some difficult times. Financial problems and petty disagreements strain their relationship. Not to mention they are having difficulties conceiving since they are of different species.

In the end they put their differences aside and live happily ever after.

Fargo

Class assignment: downtown Fargo.

We pretty much had free reign with this assignment. I took a bunch of pictures, most of which sucked or didn't turn out. Anyway, here's a couple good ones.

Just got down and snapped this bad boy. Probably one of my favorite pictures I've taken.

Snowy Stuff

A couple weeks ago the weather was a bit crazy in this neck of the woods. One day I woke up to see that things looked pretty fancy outside. Naturally I had to go take some pics!

Abandoned bikes glistening in the soft winter sun.

Just hanin' out!

Obligatory bell tower picture.
On another note, I'm going to try to get my flickr account set up for my pictures. In my photography class the professor had us all make one, but then we never did anything with it so I forgot my login info. Now the question is whether I abandon the current one or continue to try to recover it, even though I fear my efforts may be futile.

Noms

I like food. I like taking pictures. Therefore, I like taking pictures of food.

I think the assignment for my photography class was product shots. Pictures that will advertise a product. It should make people want to buy it.

After procrastinating until the morning of the due date, I was running out of ideas. That's when I realized I was about to eat a delicious banana chocolate chip muffin from the Maize. Looks like this scrumptious morsel will do more than just appetite.

After taking this picture, I promptly put that muffin into my mouth.
